In the middle of the scenic Bergslagen in Västmanland

Our farms are located on the Färna Herrgård estate. The business idea is to sell premium products of the highest quality from our own orchard of blackcurrants and rhubarb.

 

The first currant and rhubarb plants were planted in 2014. Since then, we have expanded the planting and currently have 50,000 currant plants and 50,000 rhubarb plants.

 

A currant plant is considered mature after five years, and rhubarb plants take up to seven years to establish their root system. The lifespan of the adult plants depends on the type of soil they grow in and how they are cared for. Therefore, the number of harvest years can vary from just over 10 to several decades.

BLACK CURRANTS WITH RIPE FLAVOR

Rhubarb is great, but if you're looking for a fuller flavor, blackcurrants are perfect. Ben Conan, the variety grown at Färna, is great as both a still and sparkling drink and is an excellent substitute for red wine. They are also available cold-pressed in bag-in-box with 100% blackcurrants - a strong drink that is great as a breakfast shot or in cocktails. The blackcurrant variety has a flavorful and developed character that is also very good as mulled wine. Färna Odlingar's blackcurrant mulled wine has a ripe, full flavor with hints of licorice and cherry that warms you up nicely during the winter months.

HIGHEST QUALITY RHUBARB

Johan's 50,000 rhubarb plants are Frambozen Rood, Sutton, Goliath, Canada red and Francis red. Frambozen Rood and Sutton are relatively sweet in taste and have a lovely raspberry red color. The rhubarb varieties require a lot of work with weed control and harvesting, but in return you get a fantastic taste. To produce the fine drink, the rhubarb must first be harvested stalk by stalk and the tops must be cut off, before it can finally be crushed, pressed and pasteurized. The result is a perfect non-alcoholic alternative to white wine.
